Here are some tips on what to do if you should experience an orthodontic emergency.
Protruding Wires
If you find that a wire from your braces is irritating the inside of your mouth due to protrusion, simply take a pencil eraser or a cotton swab and push the wire to rest against your tooth. You may also use orthodontic wax if these other solutions do not work. Then, wait for your next visit to our Syracuse, Fayetteville, or Fulton offices to correct the issue.
Loose Brackets
If a bracket on your braces is loose and slides back and forth on your wire, use relief wax to cover it and prevent it from spinning or sliding. Then, give us a call at 315-458-0020 to determine when you should be seen in our offices.
Braces Discomfort
It is normal to experience some discomfort, irritation, or soreness with braces. This discomfort should be minor and able to be managed and treated with common pain relievers such as Ibuprofen or Tylenol. It is very rare to experience orthodontic pain that qualifies as an emergency.
Broken Ties or Elastics
If you notice a tie or elastic that is broken, don’t panic. Simply give us a call at 315-458-0020 to determine what should be done. We may have you come in before your next scheduled appointment to repair the elastic if necessary.
Lost Retainer
Missing your retainer? If you cannot locate your retainer, it’s very important to contact our office right away to schedule an appointment so that we can fit you for a new one. This needs to be done in a timely manner so that you can begin wearing your retainer as soon as possible to keep your smile in its proper position.
